Flotea Massawe

Haba Na Haba is proud to introduce our first featured artist, Flotea Massawe. The beautiful pillows, made by Flotea’s industrious group of Tanzanian craftspeople, are our featured product.

Flotea Massawe started her business literally from scratch—begging merchants for scraps of fabric so that she could sew. Flotea’s dream was to create job opportunities in her local community. She hired homeless orphaned teens and trained them in manufacturing skills. Fifteen years later, Flotea’s textile workshop, based in Dar es Salaam produces high quality home furnishings and clothing sold internationally. Her workshop is equipped to produce screen prints, stencils, batiks, tie dye and embroidery.

Flotea is committed to paying fair wages, providing on-the-job training, and working to maintain the health of her workers. Her business serves as a model for Haba Na Haba businesses.
