Our authentic Kuba pillow covers are both rare and beautiful. Made from authentic ceremonial Kuba cloth in the Congo, our covers can be used as pillows or wall hangings. Kuba cloth is made from natural handwoven raffia and adorned with cut-pile or flat-weave applique, cowry shells and embroidery. Each pillow is 100% natural, the raffia dyed with mud, vegetables or substances from the camwood tree. The designs represent a wide variety of meanings including social and marital status, age, family ties, to name a few. Each patch is symbolic and often arranged in patterns to tell a story. The process of making the raffia cloth is quite time-consuming and often takes days to make a simple piece.
